Our three-day jewelry appraisal process provides unmatched service and accountability in evaluating your treasured items.
What You Need to Know about Jewelry AppraisalsWhen you bring your jewelry to MJ Christensen, we will conduct a multi-step assessment to provide an accurate estimate of the value of your jewelry. Our first step is a review of any sales receipts, prior grading reports, warranties, or other provenance documents you have for your jewelry. While these documents are not required, they provide a good starting point to understand the origin of your jewelry. Depending upon the type of jewelry being appraised, we then identify the type and percentage of precious metals (platinum, gold, silver, etc.) present in the item. This assessment includes a review of any mountings or prongs.
Our appraisers and gemologists then evaluate the 4Cs (cut, color, clarity and carat weight) for your gems. The accurate gradation of each of the 4Cs is critical to determine the rarity and value of your gems. From diamonds and sapphires to emeralds, our experts use the system of gemstone evaluation approved by the Gemological Institute of America as the cornerstone for their review of your gems. The final appraisal prepared by the MJ Christensen team includes a detailed written report stating our valuation of the worth of your jewels along with photographs and diagrams of your items.
