The Secrets of Selling Your Jewelry
Every memory, event, and emotion is ingrained into each piece of jewelry that you own.
Gifts from graduations, birthdays, and holidays hold sentimental value, and because of that, you may forget that your jewelry also has financial value.
Gold is an investment that you might not even know you are making, all because a piece happened to look pretty and caught your eye. Every jewelry purchase, whether you realize it or not, is an investment!
By bringing your gold and unwanted jewelry into MJ Christensen Diamonds, you will be able to see your return on investment that same day! In fact, we have some tips for you if you are considering selling your treasures.
Here are MJ Christensen Diamonds’ secrets of selling your jewelry:
Weight and Prices
Gold is weighed to help determine its value; however, jewelers use a different measurement standard called a “Troy” ounce. Others may use the system called “pennyweight” to measure Troy ounces; a system that would be about 1.555 grams heavier per ounce. Those that use the pennyweight use this as a way for the dealer to pay you less for more weight in gold. In addition to understanding the measurements, you should also know what the price of gold is to give you a reference point.
Got Karats?
Gold jewelry is rarely made from pure gold. 10, 14, and even 18 karat gold items are made up of gold and other alloys. This is because gold alone is too soft to use. One karat is measured as having 1/24 of pure gold by weight. For example, having jewelry that is 14 karats means the jewelry is 14/24 parts gold and 10/24 parts other. Your jeweler should weigh jewelry of different karat values separately. By weighing them all together, you will get the lowest karat value payout.
Don’t Be Impulsive
We know what we have to offer, but you need to be comfortable with your decision. Take a look at every piece that you want to sell. The emotional value may be more than its actual worth; so instead, take a look at broken or outdated items with no sentimental meaning. Once you have that part figured out, give yourself some time to shop around! Offers may vary depending on where you sell your gold. Remember, you don’t have to jump at the first offer; make sure you are getting the best price before selling. At MJ Christensen Diamonds, we have 80 years of history that proves we pay the highest prices for your gold!
Stay Realistic
Selling your gold will not always make you rich, but it can certainly help put some extra cash in your pocket!
Although you may feel that every piece with emotional attachment is priceless, you will only be getting paid for the amount of gold in your jewelry.
